<> that's right. I have run sales training courses for engineers for 16 years and have found that from a typical group of a dozen engineers and techies, two or three of them appear to have the right traits for sales and maybe another 3 or 4 will not be sales-negative, but the others need to be kept away from potential customers. There is a big difference in the personal traits which are appropiate for the roles of engineer and salesperson; overlap occurs only occasionally. This is a topic I have written on extensively, more information here, 'The 'Engineer Personality'.

I agree with you that Data Center Management is the hottest IT field now. I am an instructor at Metro Community College in Omaha Nebraska. We have just finished developing a two year degree in Data Center Management. We are currently in the process of building a working Data Center to be used as a classroom/lab for our students.

In the Omaha area there are several data centers and Google is build one just across the river in Iowa. Microsoft is going one down the road in Des Moines Iowa. Yahoo is building one here in the Omaha area.

Metro developed this program because of a request from Data Center companies wanting more local training in this field.

When you search the internet about data centers you see the rapid growth taking place in this field. So I agree this is the field for your readers to look into.

While I do not disagree with any of the skills listed I feel it's important to look beyond the hard technical skills and ensure that you are also focusing on building your soft skills.

As the head of engineering at my company I can tell you that strong technical skills alone is not enough. Candidates need to be articulate, be able to learn and to mentor. Check out my blog for my thoughts on the skills that are critical for becoming a key part of your team:
